Hofknecht SystemTrayMenu 3

How-to

Add a folder to the Dock on Mac

To put a folder in the Dock, drag it from the Finder to the right of the separator line. It shows as a folder or a stack, a click shows its contents as a fan, grid or list, and “Open in Finder” goes further. Every folder needs its own icon there.

Faster: the folder as a menu

  1. Download and start

Download SystemTrayMenu, drag it to “Applications” and start it there. The first time, this guide helps. It then sits in the Dock and as an icon in the menu bar.

  2. Choose a folder

Right-click the icon in the menu bar → “Settings …” → General → Menu folder → “Change …”. Several folders? Choose the folder that contains them, Documents for example: every folder inside appears in the menu.

  3. Open the menu

Click SystemTrayMenu in the Dock or the menu bar, or press ⌃⌥ (Control and Option together, then let go): the folder opens as a menu. Subfolders open next to it, typing searches, the space bar shows Quick Look.

To keep it there: Settings → General → Startup → “Start at login”. Keep the folder in iCloud Drive and every Mac has the same menu. Try it free for 14 days, then €2.99: pay once, no subscription, one license for all your computers.
